MARGARET GILBERT MEMORIAL
Wow, $303 raised! We were the winners by far in the donation challenge…great job! And Coach Luna and I will be swimming after team pictures on Wednesday. Both boys and girls finished 4th out of the 6 teams, which is great. Those Cobb teams are really tough! That pool is not a fast pool, yet you all still went a ton of best times…can’t wait to see what you do in a fast pool!
We had 2 first place finishes at the meet (getting the big chocolate bar!). The boys medley relay of Jackson Sanders, Joshua Stovall, Justin Cohen, and Kevin Hopper finished first in the first event to get us off to a great start! Jackson Sanders also won the 100 backstroke! Great job!
We had a few people qualify for county: Rees Viersen in 200 free and 100 back, Uveimar Sandoval in 50 free, Sophie Laupus in 100 free, Jackson Sanders in 100 free, Kevin Hopper in 500 free, Audrey LeSage in 500 free, and Hanna Olson in 100 breast!! Congrats!
Our female swimmer of the meet is Audrey LeSage! Audrey dropped a ton of time (14 seconds in her 500 free!) in all of her events at the meet. She competed in the 200 IM and 500 free without complaint, and even improved her IM time from just 2 nights before! She stepped in to do the fly leg on the medley relay because we needed her to, and she did it all with a smile on her face. Great job!
Our male swimmer of the meet is Jackson Sanders! Jackson was a part of the first place medley relay (leading us off with backstroke) and also won the 100 back with a season best time (missing his career best by just .02)! He also led off the 3rd place 200 free relay, and went a career best time in his top 5 finish in the 100 free. Great job Jackson!
Our biggest “loser” of the meet is Dominique Rodriguez! Dominique dropped 3 seconds in 100 free, 3 seconds in 100 breast, and 2 seconds in 50 free. She swam the 50 free in a relay and individual event, and went a best time both times! Great job!
Other big “losers” are Elly Gasaway 2 sec in 100 fly, Rebecca Horn 2 sec in 100 breast, Emma Johnson 2 sec in 100 free, Sophie Laupus 6 sec in 200 IM, Hanna Olson 3 sec in 100 breast, Austin Jackson 4 sec in 100 breast, and Joshua Stovall 2 sec in 100 breast. Great job!
Our Star Spartan at this meet is LE Laupus! LE sat at the end of the lanes almost the entire meet cheering for her teammates. She was encouraging to all and helpful to the coaches. Great job LE!
We also wanted to recognize Rebecca Horn, Emma Barhoumi, Emma Johnson, and Sophie Laupus for counting for a girl from Hillgrove in the 500 free. They noticed that no one was counting for her and stepped in to help even though she swims for another school. These girls showed what good sportsmanship is all about!
