Great meet on Saturday! We had a lot of best times, and the whole write up is below. Also, please see the attached times, newsletter, and workouts for the break. Don’t forget about the breast clinic tonight at Swim Atlanta (795 Old Roswell Rd) at 6:30PM. If you need a ride, please let me know, at this point I have not heard from anyone about needing a ride. And a big thank you to the LeSages for hosting the get together last Friday!
We came up short as far as points go, the boys lost 141-104 and the girls lost 161-112, but you all swam wonderfully. Rebecca Cohen broke the school record in the 500 Free by 7 seconds, going a time of 5:27.88! This is the first female record broken since 2002!! This is a state cut as well, and Rebecca also lowered her already state qualified time in the 100 back! Congratulations Rebecca! The girls 200 medley of Cohen, LE Laupus, Morgan Plowman, and Elizabeth Gilbert also got the state cut! Plowman got her state cut in the 200 IM as well! Great job!
We also had some swimmers qualify for county for the first time or first time in an event. They are: Anna Deutsch (200 Free), Hanna Olson (200 Free), Olivia Weinstein (200 Free), Kevin Hopper (200 Free), Joshua Stovall (200 IM), Morgan Plowman (200 IM), Justin Cohen (100 Fly), Rebecca Cohen (500 Free), Emma Barhoumi (100 Breast), and Rebecca Horn (100 Breast). Congratulations!
Our female swimmer of the meet is Rebecca Cohen! As mentioned above, Rebecca broke the school record in the 500 Free (first time since 2002 a female record has been broken). She won this event as well as the 100 back, lowering her already state qualified time. She started off the state qualifying medley relay with a strong backstroke leg. Even though her feel slipped off the wall she didn’t give up, and helped the girls reach their goal of qualifying for state. Great job!
Our male swimmer of the meet is Joshua Stovall! Joshua won the 200 IM with our fastest time of the season on the boys’ side. He also swam a strong breaststroke leg on our 2nd place medley and had our fastest split in the 200 free relay by almost a full second with a time of 24.62. He anchored this relay and just out-touched Cambridge for the win. Great job Joshua!
Our biggest “loser” of the meet is Campbell Viersen! Campbell dropped 9 seconds in her 100 Free! She also went best times in her 50 free split on the relay and in her 100 split on the relay! Campbell swam the 100 back for the first time as well. Great job Campbell!
Other big “losers” are Emma Barhoumi (4 sec in 100 breast), Anna Deutsch (3 sec in 200 free), Rebecca Horn (2 sec in 100 breast), Emma Johnson (2 sec in 100 free), Sophie Laupus (3 sec in 100 fly), Hanna Olson (2 sec in 100 fly), Dominique Rodriguez (6 sec in 100 fly), Kira Schmidt (2 sec in 50 free), Olivia Weinstein (9 sec in 500 free), and Kevin Hopper (2 sec in 100 free).
Our Star Spartan of the meet is a little unconventional this time. We would like to recognize the whole team. These were unusual circumstances, and we are so proud of how you all handled it. While obviously tougher for Cambridge, you all toned down your cheering, which I think was appropriate for the meet, but you still cheered each other on, which was great. I know they appreciated your good sportsmanship and attitude during the meet!
